In order to be successful in the social studies classroom, students are expected to master content TEKS by analyzing primary and secondary sources, reading closely for content and meaning, conducting research using valid sources, and interpreting maps, graphs, and charts. These skills are known as Process Skills. This half-day session will give teachers the tools they need to help students apply the content knowledge gained to various situations and scenarios, thus becoming a critical thinker and a well-rounded student. This session is open to K-5, 6-8, 9-12 Social Studies Teachers. We will focus on integrating ELAR & SS Skills, Assessing Process & Higher-order thinking, and you will leave with a lesson to develop and nurture process skills in your classroom.
