This course will serve as an introduction or refresher as to the purpose and opportunities available through the Naviance College and Career Readiness System. Naviance is a web-based program that assists students in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, exploring various college and career options, targeting strengths, and creating a plan of action for success in the middle and high school years as the foundational piece for learning at the secondary level, and success beyond high school. Gifted students are unique in their learning and their behaviors. This session will examine the Social and Emotional needs of these students with a special focus on the Twice-Exceptional learner.
This course will provide information on what is involved in reading and performing music. Examples will be given of what is expected of students when they are reading a music score. Also, deep breathing will be practiced and discussed, i.e. how does the thoracic diaphragm pertain to singing or playing an instrument. Participants will have the opportunity to learn chord structures, time and key signatures, and see the steps students go through as they advance in music literacy. See how the study of music relates to math and science and how this connection could be used in the classroom.
Small groups and the teacher table are not just for the elementary classroom. Let's revisit the benefits of small-group instruction and the logistics of making it work for your students. We will design a set of stations and small-group activities that align with the TEKS and prepare students for success!

This course will delve into the importance of creativity in today’s classrooms, focusing on instructional strategies that build on the core areas of creative thinking and Creative Problem Solving. Participants will gain a wealth of ideas to add to their creativity repertoire and implement in their classrooms.
During this half-day session we will focus on the protocols of PBL design. Teachers with experience in PBL and those ready to take their class to the next level will get to view and experience first hand the different protocols in action. We will discuss in detail the different aspects of design in each of the protocols. Participants will get to watch and take part in specific scenarios that arise in the course of a PBL unit.
