Formative assessment allows an opportunity for teachers to determine what students know so far about a concept or topic. Synonymous with “assessment for learning”, these checks occur as an incorporated and integral part of the instructional process to inform how the teacher will need to instruct next in the cycle. This course will provide information on what is involved in reading and performing music. Examples will be given of what is expected of students when they are reading a music score. Also, deep breathing will be practiced and discussed, i.e. how does the thoracic diaphragm pertain to singing or playing an instrument. Participants will have the opportunity to learn chord structures, time and key signatures, and see the steps students go through as they advance in music literacy. See how the study of music relates to math and science and how this connection could be used in the classroom.

These skills are known as Process Skills. This course will delve into the importance of creativity in today’s classrooms, focusing on instructional strategies that build on the core areas of creative thinking and Creative Problem Solving. Participants will gain a wealth of ideas to add to their creativity repertoire and implement in their classrooms.

After most investigations, students are asked to write about it using this format to help them understand the reason for the result.
