K-6 Fostering Math Talk through Classroom Discussions
In order for students to better understand mathematical concepts through problem solving and reasoning they need effective practice and time to develop a “conversation” with others about their mathematical thinking. One of the most important instructional tools we can provide for our students is the opportunity to “talk” out loud about how they solve mathematical problems. This session focuses on how to develop student skills for process thinking and mathematical communication. Teachers attending this session will receive a copy of Classroom Discussions: Using Math Talk to Help Students Learn.
